Award Speech

March 2019

Dear family and friends,

This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship at Trumbull High School. This scholarship has been awarded to 9 very talented aspiring artists and each year the amount of the scholarship has been increased. It is a wonderful tribute to honor our son Jay in this manner and we are truly grateful for all your generous donations throughout these 10 years.

We are pleased this year’s award will be increased to $1400!

All contributions are deeply appreciated; no gift is too small. Donations of $25.00 or more, receive a collectable Star Wars Figure from our son Jay’s classic Star Wars collection and donations are tax deductible.

2019 Award Speech

Hello. My name is Clarita Bedoya, and I am here tonight to present the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship. Jeremiah Shannon, simply known as Jay, graduated from Trumbull High School many years ago. He attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Animation. Jay was a talented artist, Star Wars enthusiast, and a dearest friend to many. Tragically, he passed away in May of 2008. While his family and friends miss him very much, he will not be forgotten. This year marks the tenth anniversary for the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship, which was created by Jay’s parents in memory of their son. This scholarship is meant to help one gifted senior of Trumbull High School each year planning on pursuing a higher education in the arts, just as Jay did. I am honored to have been last year’s recipient of such a tribute, and to be here to present it to another talented and deserving artist. This person has demonstrated her creative abilities and passion for art throughout her time here at THS. She will go on to study Studio Art and Illustration at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. I am proud to announce the 2019 recipient of the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship is Paola Gonzales.
