March 2020

Dear family and friends,

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and financial hardships during this critical time, we are cancelling our fund-raising drive this year for the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship.

We deeply appreciate all that you have done in past years to help this scholarship to flourish and grow with each passing year. However, we will take a break this year so you can focus on getting through this difficult time.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We are all in this together as we fight the spread of this deadly disease.

We are also pleased to let you know that there will be a scholarship award this year in the amount of $1400 which is the same as last year's amount! Trumbull High School is accepting student applications for the scholarship and a recipient will be announced at a later date. Scholarship night, if they have it will be a more low key event and right now it is a day to day situation.

Wishing you peace and health,

MaryAnn and Jim Salvatore

2020 Award Speech

Hello, we are MaryAnn and Jim Salvatore.  Our son, Jay Shannon graduated from Trumbull High School and attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan where he earned a BA in Animation.  He passed away suddenly in May 2008.  To honor his memory, we began the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship is intended for a Trumbull High graduate who is going to pursue a degree in Art.

The 2020 recipient has volunteered at community theater as a stagehand. She enjoys the behind the scenes work.  Her hobbies include drawing, painting, and learning to play new musical instruments. She will study at Pace University.

The 2020 recipient of the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship is Katelyn Oppedisano.
Congratulations Katelyn!
