Dear family and friends,

It has been almost seven years since we lost our son Jay on May 9, 2008.
This is also the sixth year for the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship at Trumbull High School. Thanks to your generous donations we are able to continue to award this scholarship. We are so grateful and pleased to announce the scholarship amount for 2015 will be increased $1,000. It will be presented at THS Awards Night this year.

Past JSM scholarship recipients are:
2015 - Cameron Kimball
2014 - Michael Ell
2013 - Alexander Payson
2012 - Taylor Calhoun
2011 - Steven Sikora
2010 - Emily Clemente

Once again we are offering Star Wars figures to be selected for you from Jay’s collection as a thank you for a donation of $25 or more to the scholarship fund.

We appreciate your donation of any amount. Your donation is a beautiful gesture to Jay's memory and assists a worthy Trumbull High School senior to help cover some of the ever rising costs of obtaining a higher education in Art.

The 2014 recipient Michael Ell wrote this about receiving the scholarship:

"I feel very blessed and touched to have received this wonderful and extremely meaningful scholarship. I was able to use the scholarship to help obtain the digital equipment that I needed to be successful in the Digital Media and Design Department at the University of Connecticut."

Jay graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Animation. This experience was greatly rewarding for him; it not only enhanced his creativity and art skills; it also enriched his life in many ways with the lasting friendships he made and the wonderful experience of being in New York City. Our intent is to help another art student in some small way to achieve their dreams in Jay’s memory.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.

Peace,
Jim and MaryAnn Salvatore

2015 Award Speech

"Jay Shannon was an artist. He went through the Trumbull School system and graduated from Trumbull High School. After graduation, he went to the School of Visual Arts in New York City and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Animation. Jay died suddenly in May 2008. As a tribute to their son, Jay's parents started the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship dedicated to helping a Trumbull High School senior who wants to pursue a higher education in the Arts. With the generous help of family and friends, this scholarship began in 2009 and has had 5 deserving recipients in these past 5 years. My name is Michael Ell and I am the 2014 recipient of this scholarship. I have just completed my freshman year at the University of Connecticut where I study Digital Media and Design. I felt very honored to receive this scholarship which has greatly helped me to pursue my artistic career, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to present it tonight.

This year's scholarship goes to a senior who studied art at the Silvermine Art Guild; was a prop designer, did set art, and lobby art for Trumbull Youth Association's theater productions; was an art designer for Trumbull High School plays; is a member of the National French and National Honor Societies; and will be attending Pratt Institute to study Illustration, Animation, and Graphic Design. I am pleased to announce the 2015 Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship is going to Cameron Kimball."
