Good Evening- My name is Michael Wasik, I’m here tonight to present the Jay Shannon Memorial Scholarship.

I graduated from Trumbull High in 1996, along with Jay. Who was a great friend during my time here, and for many years after.

Jay was a friendly, creative person and a talented artist. He was truly a one
of a kind individual, and to this day I’ve never met anyone like him.
After graduating THS, he was able to study his passion of animation, at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Since 2009, this scholarship has helped creative Trumbull High School seniors move forward, and achieve their dream.

Jay would be so proud of this.

This year’s recipient is Moncef Benayed, who will go on to study digital media design at Uconn.

Moncef, I wish you the best, and I hope that Jay’s talent and legacy will live on in your future work.

Congratulations Moncet!

Moncef Benayed's thank you letter

Dear Mr. and Mrs. James Salvatore,

I would like to begin by thanking you again for this scholorship. I am very thankful that you have chosen me, and I promise to make good use of the scholarship. This means a lot to me, as there were various other candidates for the scholarship, and alongside that, this will go a long way in helping me with my financial aid journey so I can attend college. I would also like to give my deepest condolences for Jay Shannon. I understand that Jay loved Star Wars, and so do I! It is one of my favorite francihses, and I fully believe we would have gotten along well. Sincerely, thank you for this wonderful gift, it is a blessing, that I am truly thankful for.

Sincerel, Moncef Benayed
